If you guys are anything like me, you’ve probably become restless with staying home during the coronavirus quarantine. I try to fill my days with more positivity to take my mind off not being able to see friends and family! One of my favourite things I’ve been doing is cuddling up with some morning coffee or tea and reading in my reading socks ! I personally love reading business related books and books that will help me and my business, whether that be my website, my youtube channel or my photography business. Here are my absolute favourites recently and the ones I’ve been reading during lockdown.
This book is great if you’re looking into beginning to invest money and time into a new business. I think I learned the true value of investing even the slightest bit of money into a business and seeing it grow with revenue, kind of like planting a “success seed”. This shows the power of investing $10, $100 or $1000 into your business and watching your own profit and revenue grow and grow. I love that the author uses real examples of small businesses (and lists them all at the end so you can go and support them) in order to show the equation of growth in a business. I’d highly recommend this to people who sell tangible items and are looking to take their business up a notch, maybe create an income stream or make a website/shop!
This book was really great, especially on a long plane ride (when I was actually able to fly places). I’ve read this book twice, the first time was when I had just started my remote work job, and it was amazing at highlighting the key aspects of successfully working from home and also working for yourself! This book focuses a lot on concentration, zoning on “The One Thing” that is most important. Whether that be on your daily to do list (ie. Today’s One Thing could be filing your taxes, as that’s a pretty large task), or even on a larger scheme (ie. This year’s One Thing could be starting a family, getting engaged, getting a new job, buying a pet. etc..) Basically the One Thing of your choice is the thing that you invest all your time and energy into, and slowly watch as this new “priority” grows and flourishes. This could be any aspect of your life, and you could have more than one in different times of your life! This book was really a perspective changer, especially on my own business because often times I feel like I’m focusing on so many different things at once that I can’t ever do ONE thing to it’s fullest potential. This one was a really good read for me- I’d recommend this to anyone, whether you own a business or not, because it really helps you sort out and prioritize your everyday life!
If you’re a blogger, thinking of becoming a blogger, or you even just own a website for fun that you occasionally post on- this book was a really good read. It was one of those books that doesn’t take weeks to finish because you just keep reading it lol. This book delved into do’s and dont’s of starting and maintaining a successful blog and website, and also talked a lot about the prevalence of social media on ensuring your blog gets it’s best traffic and revenue possible. I was really impressed with this one because I hadn’t actually heard anyone talk about it on social media and so I was skeptical but it actually gave me a lot of pointers on running my websites and what I was possibly doing wrong or things that were unknowingly backfiring on me. I’d recommend this one to people looking into starting blogs or trying to get their blog off the ground. The one main point I took from this one was POST POST POST. Doesn’t matter if nobody is reading, watching, looking at your content- the more you post the more content people will have to enjoy when they do come across your site.
4. #Influencer
This book was probably one of my favourites out of the ones I’ve mentioned. It does have a very niche topic, mostly focusing on Instagram marketing, Pinterest traffic, working with brands and how to get brand deals. I do a few brand deals on my Instagram ( @savannah_alvarez ) and I’m normally really careful with what I agree to, just because I have to absolutely love a product before I even think of doing a brand deal with the company. This book was a reassurance that I’m doing the right thing and also talked a lot about how to reach out to brands in your niche, how to start up your social media influence, and how to brand yourself. Branding yourself is so important these days and making sure you have a specific niche or purpose to your content is what draws people in the most. I’d recommend this book to any type of social media influencer and anyone who’s thinking about doing brand work or branding themselves as an influencer.
Hope you enjoyed my short little list of business books I’ve been enjoying! You can find all these books at Chapters, Indigo, Coles or Amazon! Click the link of any title you’re interested in reading and it’ll take you straight to the sale page. I normally go to the “personal business” section bookstores and scan from there. What are your favourite books that you’ve been reading on this quarantine? Let me know in the comments down below because I want to read some more!
